Arabic is the fifth most spoken language in the world — more than 400 million people between Casablanca and Baghdad speak it. And yet: whoever wants to learn it finds almost nothing but tools that fly right past the destination.
The problem has a name: Modern Standard Arabic. Almost every app teaches the formal language of news and books — but nobody speaks it on the street, at the kitchen table, in the café. The dialects of everyday life differ from Standard Arabic roughly the way Spanish differs from Latin. You can "study Arabic" for years and still not understand a single conversation in Cairo.
And even what you learn stays silent: most apps let you read, type and translate — they just never let you speak. After months of practice, many still fail at the simplest order.
